DRAGON DANCE CLASSES: MONDAYS, 6-7:30 PM starting March 3rd
The Dragon Dance is a beautiful, graceful and challenging sequence that works you on all levels. It challenges your balance, tones your physical body and calms your mind.
The Dragon Dance tells the story of the constant fight within ourselves between our desires for pleasures (kama) and material successes (artha) and our need to do what is expected of us in order to belong (dharma). In the Dragon Dance, we see the hero (I WANT) and the dragon (THOU SHALT), who represents the watchful eye of the society we belong to, preparing to battle. The hero advances and retreats. The dragon is always watching, ready to strike in order to bring the hero back in line. The Buddha teaches that when we find our true calling, our higher duty, our desires and our duties to society stop being in conflict. Instead, we are able to find joy in our duties and our pleasures and successes will be realised without us having to shun society. This is called Moksha. This is when the hero and the dragon decide to work together and soar high into the sky instead of trying to constantly beat each other down. Isn't that a fabulous story?
We're going to be breaking the sequence down into bite size until we are ready to flow through the whole 7 acts. We will also be holding some of the poses to strengthen the muscles and joints. It should take us about 6-8 weeks to get through the whole sequence. If you'd like to join us, please do commit to the whole 6-8 weeks in order not to get lost. Please contact me to book your place. Thank you.
